The Impact of Color!

mlfsportsWhen designing a website there are many things to keep in mind in how you reach the end user. It is very different from the traditional means of selling where you have the opportunity to meet someone face to face and share your message. In my experience one of the most important decisions during the development stage of your website is the choosing of your colors. The Internet is a visual and psychological medium. Most companies are actually surprised to learn that there is actually a science to choosing colors!

Just as you use words to express yourself, colors are an expression as well and are a language all on their own.

Different structural elements of your website such as headers, backgrounds, links, logos, etc. can all have a psychological impact on your visitors.

Here is a list of some of the common colors and what type of psychological emotion they invoke in people:

RED is associated with love, passion, danger, warning, excitement, food, impulse, action, adventure.

BLUE is associated with trustworthiness, success, seriousness, calmness, power, professionalism.

GREEN is associated with money, nature, animals, health, healing, life, harmony.

ORANGE is associated with comfort, creativity, celebration, fun, youth, affordability.

PURPLE is associated with royalty, justice, ambiguity, uncertainty, luxury, fantasy, dreams.

WHITE is associated with innocence, purity, cleanliness, simplicity.

YELLOW is associated with curiosity, playfulness, cheerfulness, amusement.

PINK is associated with softness, sweetness, innocence, youthfulness, tenderness.

BROWN is associated with earth, nature, tribal, primitive, simplicity.

GREY is associated with neutrality, indifference, reserved.

BLACK is associated with seriousness, darkness, mystery, secrecy.

Remember to identify your target audience along with the essence of your message when choosing your colors.

There are also numerous shades of the same color that you can use too. Here a link that lists 216 colors that work in all browsers: Shade Chart

Here’s a link for a “color wheel” that shows which colors compliment each other, and which ones don’t: Color Compliment Chart

So as you consider the many facets involved in designing, or re-designing your new site don’t hesitate to give the creative team at Launch Media & Marketing and call for a creative color consultation, or ask for help from your current webmaster!

No Need to Be Shy!

covconcWhen it comes to your website, there is no need to be shy about why you are online.
If you are there to sell a product or a service be bold about. Don’t make your end users have to sift through endless words, links, and useless graphics to get to the meat of your message.

Identify clearly who your audience is, what service or product you have for them, and most importantly why you are the provider that they should do business with.
Is it your experience, your location, your product quality? Answer these questions and then be BOLD about it on your website.

… and please make it visually interesting, neat, and easy to browse!
